Maths Shortcuts & Mind Tricks for Solving Age Related Problems.
Q) Let the total age of the husband and his wife is 70 years & if ratio of their ages is 3 : 2 then what will be the age of the wife?
Normal Method :-
Let Husband’s Age is x & his wife’s age is y
Therefore, x+y=70 (As Given) --- (1)
& also, x : y= 3 : 2 ------(2)
From (2) we get, x= ( 3 / 2 ) * y
Now Substitute this value of x in Equation (1),
Therefore, we have
( 3 / 2 ) y + y = 70
By solving the above equation, we get
y=28.
Therefore, the required Age of the wife is 28 years.
This method will take your minimum 25 to 30 seconds to get the answer if you try to solve the question from this method. But as we know in the exam we don’t have so much time & it is not possible to give that amount of time to only one question. So instead of using the normal method, try to solve the question by using the below shortcut method from which you can get the answer within 5 seconds.
Shortcut Method :-
Use the following Formula:
Age =[ Person’s ratio whose age we have to be calculate/Sum of the Ratio] * Total Age given.
Therefore, by above Formula we have:
Age of the wife = [ 2 / 5 ] * 70
= 28.
Now Try to solve below questions:
Q1.) Let the total age of husband and his wife is 56 years and if the ratio of their ages is 3 : 1 then find the age of the husband?
Answer: According to Shortcut Formula we have:
Age =[ Person’s ratio whose age we have to be calculate/Sum of the Ratio] * Total Age given
So by using above Formula we get:
Age of the Husband = [ 3 / 4 ] * 56
= 42.
Therefore, the required answer is 42 years.
Q2.) Let the total age of husband and his wife is 49 years and if the ratio of their ages is 4 : 3 then find the age of the wife?
Answer: Shortcut Formula:
Age = [ Person’s ratio whose age we have to be calculate/Sum of the Ratio] * Total Age given
So by using the above Formula we get:
Age of the Wife = [ 3 / 7 ] * 49
= 21
Therefore, the required age of wife is 21 years
